Ritual by Pure
30 day Review by Stéphanie
For anyone in the Ottawa area, you are likely familiar with Pure Yoga, Pure Fit or Pure Kitchen. The brainchild of entrepreneurs and yogis Amber Stratton and Jen Dalgleish, the Pure brand expanded to include Ritual by Pure in 2020 after frustration with Instagram who used to always abruptly cancel live workouts when there were issues with music copyright (remember those days?). For $50 a month you get a rotation of approximately 32 workouts a week so there is no shortage of styles or workout length to choose from.
The Ritual by Pure is described as follows:
With a blend of yoga, high intensity cardio and plyometrics sealed with a deep meditation, we challenge you to engage body and mind. We sweat, we move, we work hard but most of all we FEEL. This class will have you feeling every cell within you fully alive, especially the heart.

Here is my honest review after 30 days of working out:
Pros:
1) The workouts are all pretty similar, but the teachers always tailor them to their own styles or to the music.
2) The MUSIC!! The playlists are pretty great and just when you find yourself giving up, you are motivated by whatever beat is perfectly aligned with the movement you’re trying to finish.
3) There is various workouts depending on how much time you have and areas you want to target. I personally prefer the full length classes.
4) There is a place on the website which breaks down movement but having done Pure Yoga previously, I never needed to consult it.
5) I never need to use my asthma inhaler when doing The Ritual and I’m still drenched in sweat after a full-length class.
Cons
1) If you don’t know what The Ritual is, it’s not described on the streaming site.
2) The ‘heart opener’ gets pretty annoying after a few days of working out. Maybe it feels differently if you’re doing the The Ritual in-person or once a week but daily it’s a chore.
3) I don’t understand the new releases part. Are old videos disappearing? It’s not clear.
4) There is a 'Mark as Watched' button but I don't have access to a list of workouts I've completed. The list above was just done via copy and paste in Google Sheets.
5) The platform doesn't have one of those go back or go forward 10 seconds buttons.
6) If you need to pause the pause button can be hard to find on an iPad. It's at the bottom right and a bit tricky if you're sweating and breathing hard. It would be helpful to have that button in the middle.
7) While the choice of classes is great, I was not sure in which order to do them. I guess the point is to just go with your instinct? I would have appreciated some sort of structure to the workouts in terms of the order in which to do them over 7 days.
